Daniel Jay Fine, 73
Softball Umpire


Lakeland: Daniel Jay Fine, of Lakeland, died April 22, 2008 of heart failure. He was 73. He was born on August 25, 1934 in Bronx, NY. He worked for Equitable Life Insurance Co. for 37 years and also was a softball umpire for over 40 years. Daniel was former president of Polk Golden Club for the Deaf. He was a basketball gold medalist in the 1969 Deaf Olympics and was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame for the American Athletic Association of the Deaf. He is survived by his wife Velma Lee Fine Lakeland; Son Dennis Ray Fine and Wife Jennifer of Lakeland; Daughter Debbie Lillian Lauricella and husband Frank of Lakeland; Daughter Beth Robin Holly of Toms River, NJ; Brother Julius Fine of Manhattan, NY Grandchildren; Alexis Fine, Tyler Fine, Rocco Bernardo Lauricella all of Lakeland and Roger Falcone Douglas Falcone of Toms River, NJ; He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
